On Friday October 17, organisations across Australia are uniting to MAKE A DIFFERENCE to those living in poverty by taking part in CUFA’s MAD Day! MAD Day is a fun day for companies to celebrate and Make A Difference to those less fortunate in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region. Last year’s event was a huge success, raising much needed funds to support villagers living in poverty in Cambodia and Timor-Leste through the Village Entrepreneur program. Anyone can organise an event! It can be as big or as small as you’d like. It can be in your workplace or involve the public to help promote your brand and the good work you’re doing to support those living in poverty. Or it can be with your family and friends over a barbeque. We’re celebrating MAD Day on October 17, but if that date doesn’t suit for whatever reason, any day in October is fine. Stuck for ideas? Here’s a taste of what some organisations did last day to celebrate:
- Queenslanders Credit Union dressed as ‘Mad Hatters’ and held a staff bake sale
- Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank raffled a day off work and took gold coin donations
- AM Institute held a Golf Day
- Shell Employees’ Credit Union held a raffle
- Maritime Mining and Power Credit Union held a sausage sizzle, morning tea and sold chocolates
- Laboratories Credit Union held a sausage sizzle
CUFA have a stack of materials available for you to use to help promote your event as well as fun fundraising ideas to help you reach your target. This is all available as part of the MAD Pack you’ll receive after you register. MAD Day is aligned with Anti-Poverty Week, a nationwide initiative that runs annually to increase awareness of those living in poverty and to fight the causes behind it. The Village Entrepreneur program provides the skills and resources needed to help people step out of poverty and into a sustainable future.
