CUFA combats poverty by building and promoting the development of financial cooperatives throughout the Asia Pacific as well as teaching people how to manage their money and equipping them with skills and resources so they can save for a brighter future. In this way we help alleviate poverty in some of the poorest communities of our neighbouring region.
Our unique development approach starts with building capacity in the individual, with its resulting impact extending to the whole community. Instead of just giving money, CUFA teaches people how to use it. We help entrepreneurs to develop micro-businesses, providing employment opportunities and retaining income within the village.
How we combat poverty in the Asia Pacific
We teach children from a young age how to save money so they are better equipped to avoid debt when become adults. We also provide the necessary training and resources to foster ethical and inclusive financial services, so that everybody in the village has the opportunity to save regardless of their gender, ethnicity, mobility or relative wealth.
This approach increases the capacity of locals to lift themselves out of poverty, in effect, creating sustainable change to hundreds of thousands of people across the region.
